The village of Otari is the epitome of a winter wonderland. Its location between the Sea of Japan and the Northern Japanese Alps, along with the frequent cold air masses that regularly travel through the atmosphere south from Siberia, translate to frequent heavy snowfalls. The peak of the winter season can see accumulations of as much as 2 to 3 meters of snow on the ground. The village is also 80% forest, covers a large range of elevations and features a variety of seldom-visited trails offering the chance to explore pristine natural areas and reach stunning scenic vistas in solitude. ​ We offer guided tours to numerous areas throughout the village, with the location for each tour determined ultimately by weather and snow conditions. Each route offers the chance to get away from the crowded ski resorts, experience the region's beautiful nature, trample through and play in deep snow, find animal tracks or even encounter the wildlife that made them. Some routes take us to breathtaking overlooks, some to mountain passes and frozen lakes, others to small settlements that can only be reached on foot.
